In an interview in Interlaken, Switzerland, guitarist/vocalist Michael Poulsen of Volbeat talked about his feelings on the band’s June 3 release, “Seal the Deal & Let’s Boogie”, prior to the group’s June 9 performance at the Greenfield festival.
When asked if he had the same feeling with this sixth full-length album as he did with Volbeat’s debut “The Strength/The Sound/The Songs” in 2005, Poulsen stated: “Oh, yeah. I feel like I get a new kid every time I release a new album. Volbeat is my baby. So it is a huge thing. We care about what we do, and, of course, we put a lot of work, energy and passion in creating the Volbeat music and recording. And it means a lot for us that the fans like it, but at the end of the day, we have to like it first, because we are going on the road and we wanna play music that we really love. And I think we just wrote the strongest record in our career so far. The reaction from fans and reviews have been amazing. It’s going really, really good, and the sales are skyrocketing. It’s going fast right now with the new record; it’s already No. 1 in… I don’t know… fifteen different countries on iTunes. It’s getting crazy. So it feels good to have the new record out that we can share the love for the same music. So, yeah, for me, it’s like taking care of that new child every time I release an album.”
Volbeat will be spending most of their summer in Europe, returning to the states in August for Seether’s Rise Above Festival (Maine, August 6), followed by the Heavy Montreal event (Montreal, August 7), and finishing up with an opening slot for Metallica at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis (August 8).
